Hospital & Care Home Negligence

Negligence in hospitals and nursing homes is a huge concern. The media is consistently reporting on the negligent spread of infections and whilst levels are not as high as suggested, it is a problem patients face along with other incidences of substandard care. In nursing homes, family members are often worried about the level of care their elderly relatives are receiving, again, because of horror stories in the media. Whilst these are the exceptions, unfortunately, negligence does occur.
Claims can arise in number of ways, including:
- A failure to recognise an infection or a delay in its diagnosis or treatment
- Surgery going ahead despite knowing there is an outbreak of an infection
- Failure to monitor a patient properly, to record observations correctly and/or follow safety procedures
- Injuries to nursing home residents caused by a failure to supervise or assist
- Failure to response quickly to residents complaints/symptoms
- Failure to administer the correct medication
- Failure to get outside medical assistance when required
