Asbestos

On average 38 workers a week die from an asbestos related illness as a result of working in a dangerous environment. Asbestos is a fibrous building material that was used widely from the 1950s to the 1980s. It was predominantly used for insulation and fireproofing and may be contained in any building constructed prior to 2000. It is the individual asbestos fibres which are dangerous when they are inhaled.
Most asbestos related diseases are gained as a result of working in an asbestos heavy environment without the appropriate protective equipment. It can, tragically, also occur as a result of touching the clothes or belongings of someone who works in such an environment. Your employer has a responsibility to protect you, and your loved ones, from contracting illnesses as a result of your working environment. If they fail to protect you, then you may be entitled to make a claim.
This claim will compensate you for any pain, suffering and loss of enjoyment that you experience as a direct result of your illness. It will also compensate you for any financial loss such as loss of employment and any money you have had to spend as a direct result of your illness. Equally, if a loved one you relied on financially has died, such as a partner or parent, you can make a claim for the loss of this finance, funeral expenses and a bereavement award.
If you would like to make a claim please contact Foot Anstey to discuss the matter further. We will ensure that you receive expert advice in an understanding and supportive environment.
