Head and Brain Injuries

Head and Brain Injuries

Head and brain injuries are a surprisingly common occurrence, with an estimated 1 million people each year being admitted to hospital with some form of head or brain injury. The legal arguments surrounding brain injuries can be complex and therefore it is important that an expert is instructed. The amount of compensation awarded for these kind of injuries can often be extremely high, reflecting their devastating nature. You could be awarded compensation for adaptations to your home, to pay for care and to cover rehabilitation such as physiotherapy.

There are two principle kinds of brain injury;  traumatic and acquired. A traumatic injury is caused by an external force such as a physical attack or falling object whereas an acquired injury is one you were born with. The effects of a head/brain injury can be extensive and wide-ranging. These include paralysis, coma, brain damage causing mental or physical disability and even death.

If your injury is as a result of a criminal attack you could receive a payment from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA). This is a government funded award and there are strict conditions for the compensation to be awarded (e.g. there must have been a violent crime and you must have reported it).

Foot Anstey have dealt with numerous head and brain injury cases and therefore understand not only the legal arguments, but also the ongoing needs of the injured party and their loved ones. We will be on hand to assist you with rehabilitation and obtaining compensation to help support you through these difficult times.
