Road Traffic Accidents

Road traffic accidents (RTA's) are extremely common, injuring an estimated 300,000 people each year. A claim can arise if you were the driver, a passenger, a cyclist, motorcyclist or a pedestrian. The claim will usually be against the person at faults' insurance company and not the individual themselves. If that person does not have insurance, the claim will be made against the Motor Insurance Bureau. This is an organisation, that ensures you still receive compensation even if the person at fault was uninsured or cannot be traced.

An RTA can also occur overseas. If you have been involved in an accident in Europe then you can feel assured that your claim can be bought in the English courts as a result of the 4th and 5th Motor Insurance Directive which forces foreign insurance bodies to appoint an agent in the UK to deal with the claim.
