£14,000 for injuries following accident in car park
Amy was reversing into a parking space in a car park when someone, whose vehicle was parked in a space to her right, reversed out of the space colliding with the driver's side of Amy's car.
As a result of the accident Amy suffered shock, low back pain with stiffness and discomfort and pain in the right elbow.
A course of physiotherapy treatment was arranged.
Her low back pain was expected to heal over a period of approximately 5 months but a cortisone injection was needed to the right elbow.
Amy had to have time off work and give up playing netball, she was also unable to follow her other hobby of salsa dancing for over a year.
Unfortunately Amy's back did not recover and an MRI scan showed that she had suffered disc damage as a result of the accident.
Nikki Millings a road traffic accident specialist in the personal injury team at Foot Anstey investigated and secured Amy over £14,000.00 in compensation. Amy will now be able to afford to buy equipment which will help to strengthen her back for the future.

More than £4,500 in compensation for ear cut by hairdresser
Becky, an experienced hairdresser cut her client's ear in a momentary loss of concentration.
Jenny went to her usual salon to have her hair cut for the first time in some months. This was a big event for Jenny as she was slowly building her confidence after a nervous breakdown.
Becky appeared a little agitated and said this had been caused by unrelated incident, Jenny explained to her hairdresser that this was a big deal for her and that she needed her to concentrate fully. Jenny noticed that Becky was constantly looking around and appeared very distracted.
Jenny then felt excruciating pain and saw a lot of blood coming from her ear. Becky gave her a towel to hold over the ear, Jenny said that she needed to go to A&E, but ended up waiting 15 minutes for another stylist to finish her client's hair before she could drive her there.
Once at A&E the injury to her ear was cleaned and glued and steri-stripped. Jenny had to return for out patient treatment on three further occasions.
The whole incident had a negative impact on Jenny's recovery as she was unable to sleep properly or wash her hair, she remains very concerned that she will be left with permanent scars and a deformed ear.
Nikki Millings from the personal injury team at Foot Anstey pursued the matter and secured Jenny over £4,500 in compensation.

CICA award almost £6.5m for abuse induced cerebral palsy
A young woman, who was abused by her mother as a baby, has been awarded almost £6.5m from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA).
Child abuse during infancy often takes the form of severe shaking from a frustrated parent or caregiver, causing haemorrhage in or just outside the brain. The diagnosis of cerebral palsy in this case had been directly attributed to this kind of abuse by the mother.
Due to the severity of the brain damage the young woman will always be dependent on others for all aspects of her personal care and is expected to make little or no improvement during her lifetime.
Andrew Hannam, a partner in the clinical negligence team, secured the award after several years of investigation and negotiation. He is delighted that she will now be able to afford the level of care and treatment that she will need to give her the best possible quality of life.

Man knocked over by dog gets £47,000 compensation
Gary was walking along a footpath when he was suddenly confronted by a large New Foundland dog running towards him. The owner failed to control the dog and Gary was knocked to the ground as he could not get out of the way.
Gary fell very awkwardly on to his ankle and ended up being airlifted to hospital where it was found he had a serious fracture, which required surgery to pin and plate the ankle.
He had to stay off work for 3-4 months and have extensive physiotherapy. The hardest things for Gary were that he had to stop his running and cycling and he is no longer able to help with the outdoor activities of the Scout group where he is assistant leader.
Louise Cunningham a solicitor in the personal injury team at Foot Anstey represented Gary and settled the case for £47,000, this has compensated Gary for his period of being unable to work and will also allow him to investigate other forms of exercise to replace the running and cycling that he misses so much.
